The digital transformation and the increasing importance of health science data are challenging our society. It is essential to equip everyone involved in health research with the skills to handle and understand datasets and thereby enable them to make informed decisions. A handbook on training concepts on research data management in health research published by NFDI4Health provides new methods and approaches.

About 15.000 participants attended the World Health Summit in Berlin from 15 to 17 October 2023. The global conference brought together renowned stakeholders from politics, science and society to discuss strategies for a healthier global future. NFDI4Health joined the session “Global Health Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics” and met Adrian Burton from the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC).
This year’s DataSHIELD Conference took place from 11 to 13 October 2023 and was organized by the University Medical Center Groningen. The beginners' workshop and the conference attracted about 60 participants from various European research consortia. NFDI4Health made a strong presence as 4 of its members joined and engaged in discussions on privacy-protecting and FAIR analysis of health science data using the software DataSHIELD.
The 18th annual conference of the German Society for Epidemiology (DGEpi) took place in Würzburg from 26 to 28 September 2023. NFDI4Health participated in the conference and emphasized the importance of FAIRification of research data in health research. The focus of the NFDI4Health contributions was on 4 workshops on research data management and federated data analysis.
In Germany, it is currently difficult to link health data from different sources. This impairs the quality of healthcare - especially in comparison with neighboring European countries. A new white paper identifies weaknesses and points to possible solutions.

Mal tage die Fachgesellschaft mit rund 800 Besucher:innen vom 17. bis 21. September 2023 in Heilbronn. Die Fachtagung bot eine Austauschplattform für Forschende aus medizin-informatischen, biometrischen und epidemiologischen Fachbereichen. Das Programm reichte von medizinischen Fortbildungen über eine Summer School für Nachwuchsforschende bis hin zu interdisziplinären Fachvorträgen.
The DataSHIELD conference will take place from in Groningen from 11 to 13 October 2023. DataSHIELD is an open-source software for secure analysis of biomedical and health science data. At the conference, developers, users and interested parties will meet to discuss the status quo and new potential applications of the software.

The conference of the German Society for Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS) took place in Heilbronn from 17 to 21 September 2023. The symposium for digital health research was hosted under the motto "Science. Close to the people" and attracted 800 participants from various scientific disciplines. Members of the NFDI4Health consortium attended the conference to present their strategy for a FAIR data infrastructure in health research to a broad audience.
