About 25 members of NFDI4Health travelled to "Gesundheit Gemeinsam" in Dresden from 8 to 13 September 2024, to present innovative approaches for FAIR data sharing and metadata management in health research.
German Central Health Study Hub: Findability of Health Studies
Johannes Darms presented the German Central Health Study Hub, which facilitates the discovery and publication of clinical, public health, and epidemiological studies. This NFDI4Health service enhances access to and reuse of relevant study results and supports the integration and harmonisation of health data from various sources.
Synthetic Data: Protection of Personal Information
In the "Synthetic Data" panel, Sobhan Moazemi, Tim Adams, Maximilian Jugl, and Julian Schneider introduced new methods for generating artificial data that resemble real patient data. They introduced the "Syndat" platform, which analyses and visualises synthetic patient data, and discussed the risks of re-identification as well as corresponding protective measures. The panel highlighted the growing importance of synthetic data in medical research.
FAIR Data Sharing Symposium: Data Exchange Across Borders
Juliane Fluck and Iris Pigeot opened the symposium and presented the progress of NFDI4Health under the umbrella of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). The speakers Sebastian C. Semler (for MII), Jörg Janne Vehreschild (for NUM/Nucleus), Raphael Majeed (for DZG AG Research IT), and Phillip Kachel (for Krebsregister Rheinland-Pfalz and Arbeitsgruppe Krebsregister of GMDS) presented their renowned initiatives for building health data infrastructure and discussed, for example, sustainable funding for the projects and the necessity of an advisory body. The experts agreed that close collaboration between the individual structures is crucial for an effective FAIR research data landscape and for ensuring compatibility with the European Health Data Space (EHDS).
Information Booth and Networking Opportunities
The NFDI4Health and NFDI4Microbiota Information Booth in the foyer of the event building offered participants the opportunity for direct chats and to clarify detailed questions about specific projects and data types. A prize wheel, merchandise products, and snacks added a fun element to the informal exchanges.
