The European Health Data Space (EHDS) is a European regulation designed to improve the exchange and use of health data across Europe. It provides a legal framework for the provision and use of electronic health data in healthcare (primary use), as well as for research, innovation, policy-making, and the governance of healthcare (secondary use) – both within EU Member States and across borders. The regulation also sets out provisions for a European governance framework for digital health issues. The EHDS allows the EU to fully harness the potential of secure exchange, secure use, and the reuse of health data for the benefit of patients, researchers, innovators, and regulatory authorities.
